I recently mentioned how 2026 is likely to be year of the Pokémon.
The reason being February 27 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Red and Green games in Japan in 1996.
If you are a child of the ‘90s you will no doubt remember the amazing feeling of tearing into a Pokémon pack in the playground, trying to complete your Pokédex.
Its memories like this that are causing today’s market to skyrocket. Pokémon cards which sold for mere pounds just a few decades ago are worth thousands today snapped up by cash-rich Millennials keen to reconnect with their youth.
Our recent sale saw a collection of vintage original Pokémon cards from 1998 to 2001 sell for £2,250 – considerably more than its guide price of £120-£180.
Next February 27 we will be holding the UK’s only sale devoted to the momentous anniversary. The date is expected to draw significant international attention from both seasoned collectors and new-generation fans.
