Hansons Auctioneers is excited to announce the sale of a Fabergé Cigarette Case at its upcoming Fine Art Sale on March 27th. This early 20th-century Russian silver-gilt, cloisonné, and en plein enamel cigarette case was likely crafted by Feodor Rückert, one of the renowned workmasters of the House of Fabergé. The case is decorated with intricate polychrome cloisonné enamel, featuring a stylised floral pattern in vibrant colours, and a beautiful en plein enamel image inspired by Mikhail Ivanovich Avilov’s 1913 painting Tsarevich Ivan Ivanovich on a Walk.
The cigarette case is engraved with a presentation inscription in Cyrillic, marking it as a commemorative gift from the Russian State, General Electricity Company, dated 1915. With its sapphire cabochon thumb-piece and Fabergé hallmark in Cyrillic, the piece serves as a stunning example of the Imperial Russian craftsmanship that made Fabergé famous.
