High-profile items like Babe Ruth’s jersey, which sold for a staggering £19.3 million, show just how lucrative the market has become, with football shirts, especially vintage ones, now fetching impressive sums.
Hansons Auctioneers has seen this rise in demand firsthand, especially within the football and sports memorabilia sector. The Derbyshire auction house has handled iconic items like an England World Cup 1966 match-worn shirt belonging to Sir Bobby Charlton, which fetched a remarkable £45,000. Additionally, a pair of match-worn football boots worn by David Beckham during the 1998 World Cup qualifying match between Italy and England in 1997 achieved a realised price of £14,500.
