More then 1,000 lots went under the hammer in Hansons’ four-day May Antiques and Collectors sale.
Here Adrian Kinton shares six lots from the Furniture, Art and Collectors’ section of the sale which surpassed or easily matched their estimates.
Victorian pine
Lot 2092 | This large Victorian antique pine glazed kitchen dresser impressed bidders. It has two glazed front doors, split shelving above central cupboards, three drawers on either side and a pull-out tray, knob handles and bun feet. Sold for £850
Flemish tapestry
Lot 2103 | Bidders adored the historical quality and elegance of this early 17th Century Flemish tapestry, probably Brussels, woven to depict a gentleman and lady walking within parkland with dogs and acouple with child behind. A moated Chateau can be seen in the background which is punctuated with trees, flowers and fauna. The main picture is surrounded by a flower-filled border with central top vignette and a basket of flowers. The striking artwork is initialled B B and measures 345cms x 427cms. Provenance: Barton Hall, Barton Blount, Derbyshire. Sold for £5,800
Italian School art
Lot 3006 | Italian School art is extremely popular at auction which led to this 19th century Italian School paste on board of a portrait of a man with a headscarf, unsigned and framed, smash its estimate of £100 – £150. Sold for £500
19th Century harlequin
Lot 3020 | The quirky appeal of this 19th Century tinsel print depicting ‘Mr G French as Harlequin’ and published by J Redington won over bidders. The hand-coloured print featuring a tin foil and sequins-embellished figure, laid on a watercolour background, all set in a maple framed was guide at £100-£150 but easily excelled that. Sold £240
Alabaster elegance
Lot 3161 | This 19th century alabaster figurine of the Three Graces did well at auction despite damage to the base, legs and fingers and other areas. Dimensions: 50cm high. Unsigned. Sold £320
Chinese surprise
Lot 3167 | This pair of Chinese pink Cloisonné vases with matching plate leapt past their low estimate of £80 to achieve £260.
