Gold charms bidders in May sales as bracelet soars to £6,100 in booming market

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Gold prices are booming at auction with a single charm bracelet surpassing £6,000 at Hansons Auctioneers – and prices are expected to rise even higher.

Hansons is witnessing strong hammer prices for all types of gold in its monthly sales and the trend is showing no signs of abating.

Worldwide gold prices have risen by 8% in the last three months and nearly 34% over the last year. As of April 30, 2023, the price of gold was around US$1,717 per ounce (£1,386.99). Economic analysts predict gold prices will continue to rise significantly due to the aftermath of the global pandemic.

What our expert says

Helen Smith, Head of Jewellery and Associate Director of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “Gold prices are particularly strong right now and clients are reaping the benefits. Selling at auction works well as you open up your items to a global market, helping them achieve their full potential.

“Charm bracelets sell particularly well due to their weight but all types of gold will fly at auction, even broken jewellery. If you have any unwanted gold at home it’s certainly a very good time to liquidate your assets.”
