Why vintage and antique jewellery is so in vogue

 |  By andy

Vintage and antique jewellery is hugely popular at auction, bang on trend – and could gain you a windfall.

The vintage market has experienced huge growth thanks to both trend-driven demand and increased environmental awareness.

The negative impact the fashion industry is having on our environment has been a big topic of debate in recent months. The importance of sustainable fashion and improving our shopping habits has seen people seeking out vintage as a stylish and sustainable way of refreshing their wardrobe.

This trend impacts on the jewellery sector, too, plus some fashionistas prefer to seek out unusual antique items to help them stand out from the crowd.

On top of that, gold and diamond prices are high and a forgotten piece of jewellery languishing in a drawer could easily provide some holiday money – or even pay for an entire break.

Bearing all that in mind, take two finds just in. This Fabergé bracelet has a guide price of £2,000-£2,500 while the gold charm bracelet could gain its owner several hundred pounds. Charm bracelets regularly fetch more than £1,000 at auction.

We’re inviting entries for our monthly and Spring Fine Jewellery sales. Free jewellery and watch valuations are available on Mondays and Fridays, 10am-4pm at Hansons, Heage Lane, Etwall, DE65 6LS, or email head of jewellery Helen Smith to arrange a free valuation: [email protected].
