What bidders want! Spanish guitar, vintage gas lamp and William Wallace umbrella stand among lots to shine in Staffordshire sale

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Eclectic lots shone bright in July’s Country House Attic Auction at Hansons’ Staffordshire saleroom Bishton Hall.

Amanda Sales McHale, a member of the Bishton Hall sales team, said: “Auctioneer Rob Oulton was on form and secured some amazing sales for our clients.  With several stars of the show smashing estimates, it was impossible to choose a winner so here are the top performers.

“Architectural antiques do well at auction and a W Hind gas lamp sold together with original photographs showing it hanging outside a chemist shop was the first to exceed expectations romping home at £450.

“The next amazing lot was a William Wallace umbrella stand which achieved over £200.  This was followed by a beautiful vintage Spanish guitar, complete with its original receipts and case from the 1970s.

It reached well over the estimate at £750 and was very nearly the star of the show, only to be pipped at the post by a stunning Chinese display cabinet.  With internet and a number of telephone bids jockeying for position, the final hammer came down at £800 just beating the Juan Alvarez classical guitar.

“It was a fabulous day with great customers on site as well as intense interest from bidders all over the world. We are now looking forward to the Bargain Hunt Auction at Bishton Hall on August 16. The Bargain Hunt TV team will be filming the annual Children in Need special and it promises to be a spectacular event.”
