More than 1,000 lots went under the hammer in Hansons’ four-day March Antiques & Collectors Auction. Bidding was strong across all sectors in this monthly sale.
As always, jewellery, gold and silver achieved good results but rising demand for Royal Crown Derby porcelain was noted once again, particularly for Imari pattern ceramics and cat figures.
However, two of the most impressive results were achieved by antique clocks. A Kendrick of Droitwich (Worcestershire) Victorian drop dial wall clock achieved a hammer price of £660 from a £100-£140 estimate. In similar vein, a 20th century reproduction Dutch-style 8-day longcase clock soared to £460 from a guide of £100-£150.
The most surprising result came courtesy of a Bentley Motors Collection tan leather picnic champagne travel case which sold for £700 from a £40-£50 estimate. Congratulations to the seller!
