Elegance and style hit heady heights in the 1940s and 50s and this dazzling Cartier brooch epitomises that perfectly.
It was among a host of inherited objects bought along for free valuation at our Etwall headquarters – and head of jewellery Helen Smith fell in love.
Dating back to the 1940s/50s, the 18ct gold floral brooch features diamonds and impressively bright rubies. It exudes glamour and opulence. You can imagine it pinned to a lapel on a tailored suit jacket or floaty floral frock decades ago.
Fifties style was ultra-feminine and distinctive with nipped-in waists, swing dresses with full petticoats, pencil skirts, twin set cardigan/sweaters, stilettos and headscarves. But the finishing touch was always a striking piece of jewellery.
The brooch has entered our March 31 Fine Silver, Watches and Jewellery Auction with an estimate of £3,000-£5,000.
