A heaven-sent bottle of Maison Bisquit Cognac could spark a bidding frenzy among collectors keen to secure a unique investment.
To underline its importance the bottle itself has a name, ‘L’Origine Orylag’ – a rare honour that is richly deserved, according to Hansons’ whisky and spirits valuer Stuart Palmer. He says this bottle represents the absolute pinnacle of production for Bisquit Cognac, not only the liquid but its presentation in fine materials crafted by French artisans.
The crystal decanter with silver collar sits atop a box housing a crystal stopper and four glasses. All is set amid plush fur from the French Orylag rabbit. The striking ensemble enters Hansons’ Wine, Whisky and Spirits sale on January 26 with a guide price of £2,800 to £3,500.
The finished cask, from which only one bottle had ever been drawn prior to this bottle being acquired some years ago, is kept in the Cellar Paradis (Cellar Heaven in French) at Chateau Bisquit, the French home of multi award-winning Bisquit Cognac. The cask is housed together with a limited number of the Chateau’s most important and historical bottles.
Maison Bisquit was founded in 1819 by Alexandre Bisquit when he was only 20 years old. Like a lot of fine cognacs it’s a blend of casks, these being the finest Maison has according to the Cellar Master Denis Lahouratate. They include Petite Champagne 1969 and Grande Champagne 1947.
