TV’s Kate Bliss and Charles Hanson team up for free antiques valuation event in Wiltshire

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Two well-known faces from popular TV antiques shows are heading to Wiltshire on the hunt for auction treasures.

Jewellery and silver consultant Kate Bliss and general antiques and Chinese ceramics expert Charles Hanson will be at The Methuen Arms, 2 High Street, Corsham, on Tuesday June 28, from 10am-4pm – no appointment necessary.

Both have appeared on TV’s Bargain Hunt for many years and they are also familiar faces on Antiques Road Trip.

Charles, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “Kate and I can’t wait to team up to see if we can uncover some treasures in Wiltshire and, hopefully, deliver a few auction windfalls for some lucky people.

“If you have something tucked away at home that might be of value, or, perhaps, some unwanted gold, jewellery, silver or a watch gathering dust, there’s no better time to sell. Despite the economic downturn, auction sales are buoyant. When times are tough investors prefer to buy tangible assets.

“Top lots of late have included a pair of denim dungarees bought for a fiver in the 1970s, which sold for a total of £12,000. They turned out to be a costume from the first ever Star Wars film in 1977.

“We are also seeing gold sovereigns double in value from £200 to £400 and all types of jewellery excel. Oriental wares can deliver phenomenal results, too. For example, Hansons recently sold a 13th century Chinese Southern Song hare’s fur bowl for £56,000 – 28 times its £1,500-£2,000 estimate.

“Kate and I would love to meet as many people as possible on the day and, if you like our guide prices, you can consign to sell your item with Hansons Auctioneers there and then.”

Hansons Auctioneers offers a broad range of monthly general and specialist sales covering everything from toys, ceramics, jewellery and art to militaria, textiles and antiquarian books.

Meet Charles Hanson and Kate Bliss on June 28, 10am-4pm, at The Methuen Arms, 2 High Street, Corsham, Wiltshire, SN13 0HB. To find out more, email [email protected] or call 01283 733988.
