Treasure trove! Be first to see hundreds of items in Country House Furniture Auction at Bishton Hall

 |  By andy

A fascinating array of hundreds of items of furniture – both antique and vintage – are set to go under the hammer at a special sale at Bishton Hall.

The Staffordshire Georgian mansion will host a Country House Furniture Auction on January 26, organised by Hansons Auctioneers and featuring around 200 lots.

Everything from antiques chests, pine dressers, chairs, tables and sofas to an elaborate fire surround, a kitsch 1970s dining table, retro sideboards and even a pommel horse will go under the hammer.

The sale also includes two large vintage studio lights from London’s Pinewood film studios, estimate £400-£600.

Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “Bishton Hall is a wonderful venue owned by the Stafford-Northcote family and this will be our third auction at this atmospheric country mansion, which dates back to circa 1750.

“We held our first event there last October and it attracted more than 1,000 people who enjoyed the experience of visiting Bishton Hall as well as the auction itself.

“The beauty of Bishton is that it offers us bags of space to display large items of furniture making it easier for people to browse and view. Beat the January blues and join us at this special event.”

The furniture will be displayed in the gym at the former St Bedes Prep School and viewing will be available on Friday, January 25 from noon-7pm and on January 26 from 9am until the auction gets under way at 11am.

Edward Rycroft, furniture valuer at Hansons, said: “There are some wonderful pieces in this sale which has something for everyone. If you’re looking for a stand-out piece for your home, on trend, kitsch 70s furniture, items to work some shabby chic magic on or just something quirky, you won’t be disappointed.”
