The moment Charles Hanson will cherish forever – meeting Her Majesty The Queen

 |  By Kendal Cooper

As we look back on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and celebrate her enormous contribution to our nation, I feel truly humbled – and honoured – to have met her just a few weeks ago, writes Charles Hanson

In July 2022 I was invited to host a prestigious auction for the Queen’s Choral Foundation at Windsor Castle. It was an enormous privilege and – much to my delight – Her Majesty The Queen was in attendance.

It was a wonderful event and, during proceedings, I was fortunate enough to be presented to Her Majesty. For me it was the ultimate honour. Occasionally, I’ve met members of the royal family but meeting the Queen was a moment I will truly cherish forever. We had a lovely chat and I am pleased to say I made her smile.

Like millions of others, I was rocked by her loss. And I immediately realised how lucky I had been to gain the opportunity to shake her hand – a woman who has played an outstanding part in British history.

She was an exemplary monarch. She displayed unstinting loyalty and devotion to duty for decades. She brought stability, colour and joy into millions of people’s lives.

I will miss her. God bless her.
