Below is the original news article about the shirt, NOW WITHDRAWN.
A shirt worn by football legend Sergio Aguero when he scored ‘the most important goal in Manchester City’s history’ is up for auction.
The striker wore the shirt when he hammered in a late winner to clinch a 3-2 victory over QPR to ensure Manchester City won the 2011/12 Premier League title. According to Hansons, it’s a priceless memento for any devoted City fan because Aguero’s goal – on the last day of the season – ended the Sky Blues’ 44-year wait for a league title.

It marked a turning point in the club’s fortunes. For years, they’d played second fiddle to local rivals Manchester United when it came to filling trophy cabinets. Aguero’s goal and that longed-for league title catapulted the Sky Blues into an era of unprecedented success.
More league titles followed and in 2018 they became the only team in Premier League history to attain 100 points in a season. In 2018-19 they won four trophies and at the end of the 2020-21 season Manchester City were recognised as the football club with the highest revenue in the world.

The unwashed ‘Kun Aguero’ number 16 Umbro shirt, still sporting Champagne marks from the post-match celebrations, will be offered in Hansons Auctioneers’ World Cup and Sports Memorabilia Auction on November 3 with a guide price of £15,000-£25,000. It’s hoped Blues fans with deep pockets will send the price soaring higher for two reasons.
David Wilson-Turner, Hansons’ Head of Sports Memorabilia, said: “Not only is Aguero’s shirt a hugely important piece of football memorabilia, monies raised will go to charity.
“Aguero scored that crucial winning goal in the 4th minute of added time against QPR to secure Manchester City their first Premier League title, and first top division title, since the 1967-68 season. It was arguably the most important goal in the club’s history.

“Former Manchester City player Mario Balotelli asked Aguero for the shirt as a souvenir but left it behind with his bag. It was obtained by a former Manchester City kitman who donated it the National Football Shirt Collection which loans sporting memorabilia to museums.
Collection owner Neville Evans, from Wales, picked up the story: “After Balotelli left the stadium without his bag – and the shirt – the items were transferred to the club’s training ground. However, they were never claimed. After some time had passed, the former Manchester City staff member who found the shirt gifted it to the National Football Shirt Collection via my curator.

“I never planned to sell it but my curator is currently undergoing medical treatment. The auction proceeds will be shared between him and two charities important to him, Testicular Cancer UK and the Stroke Association.”
Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons, said: “I am delighted to be involved in a bid to help these important charities. Coincidentally, the year Aguero scored that goal – wearing that shirt – I was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
“Some football fans may recall the Aguero shirt being offered for sale earlier this year. Bids were pouring in but, due to unforeseen circumstances, it had to be withdrawn. Now there is nothing to stop any football memorabilia collector making it their own.”
Legendary Argentinian striker Aguero, also known as Kun Aguero, joined Manchester City in 2011. Over the next 10 years he made 275 appearances for the club and scored 184 goals.
However, no City goal was more important than the one he scored on the last day of 2011-12 season. He’d helped the Blues top the table in a tightly-contested race for the title. It was neck and neck with Manchester United and hanging on goal difference.

The Red Devils’ last game of the season saw them win at Sunderland, leaving the ball in Manchester City’s court when they faced relegation-threatened QPR side at the Etihad Stadium. The Blues needed three points to clinch the title but, despite entering the interval one goal up, the visitors scored twice in the second-half. Manchester United were suddenly on track to retain the crown and take the glory.

However, when Joey Barton was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Carlos Tevez, City gained a man advantage in their pursuit of goals. Substitute Edin Dzeko headed in from David Silva’s corner to level proceedings before Aguero sealed the 3-2 win in the final moments.
