Have you ever looked at an old vase on your mantelpiece or a forgotten item tucked away in the attic and wondered what it might be worth? This month, we’re offering you the chance to find out — and perhaps enjoy a moment worthy of Antiques Roadshow.
Hansons Auctioneers are delighted to announce that renowned TV antiques expert Adam Schoon will be joining auctioneer Charles Hanson for two very special valuation events in Staffordshire and Derbyshire. With over 40 years of experience, and 25 of them spent as a consultant on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, Adam brings extraordinary expertise to the table — particularly in Chinese and Asian ceramics and art, a field that continues to excite collectors worldwide.
The first event takes place at the elegant surroundings of Bishton Hall, Staffordshire, on Monday 12th May, from 10am to 4pm. Visitors are welcome to drop in — no appointment necessary. The following day, Tuesday 13th May, Adam will be at our Etwall Saleroom in Derbyshire, also from 10am to 4pm. Appointments can be made by emailing [email protected] or calling 01283 733988.
While Adam is best known for his expertise in Asian art and antiques, his knowledge spans a broad spectrum of collectables. Alongside Charles Hanson and the wider Hansons team, he will be offering free expert valuations and advice on items ranging from jewellery and fine art to ceramics, coins, militaria, toys, and more.
These events promise not only expert insight but a thoroughly enjoyable day out. At Bishton Hall, guests can explore the Georgian gardens and enjoy refreshments at Sparrow’s Tearoom. In Derbyshire, visitors will be welcomed at Hansons’ long-established saleroom with the warm hospitality for which the firm is known.
Recent results at Hansons speak volumes about the rising demand for Asian antiques. In March, a single lot featuring a Wucai Dragon Jarlet, Ming-style vases, and other Chinese ceramics fetched an impressive £53,000 at our Banbury saleroom. Highlights from our Spring Fine Art Auction in Derbyshire included a beautifully Chinese enamelled snuff bottle, which realised £7,000, and a charming Chinese famille rose food warmer that sold for £2,900 at Bishton Hall in April.
