Rams legend Roy McFarland’s England shirt set for auction glory

 |  By andy

A 1970s England shirt worn by Derby County legend Roy McFarland is set to spark excitement among play-off-happy Rams fans when it goes under the hammer in May.

The find comes hot on the heels of the discovery of three other shirts worn by 70s Rams legends. In Hansons’ last Football In Focus Auction, an Alan Hinton shirt sold for £2,600 and a Kevin Hector shirt made £800.

As well as the McFarland England shirt, estimate £700-£100, Hansons’ May 23 sports auction will see a Ron Webster shirt from the Rams’ famous 1971-72 League Division One Championship-winning season go under the hammer, estimate £800-£1,200.

Sports valuer Alistair Lofley said: “We’re not sure which England game Roy Mac wore it in but can date it to between 1974 and 1976. That style of England shirt was worn from 1974 to 1980 and he earned 28 England caps between 1971 and 1976. McFarland was a brilliant central defender and huge fans favourite so we’re expecting strong interest.”

The May 23 sports auction can be previewed on Wednesday (May 15) at Hansons, Heage Lane, Etwall, 11am-7pm. Entries are invited for Hansons’ August 22 Football in Focus and Sports Memorabilia Auction. To arrange a valuation, email [email protected].
