Model railway fans in transport of delight as phenomenal collection comes to auction

 |  By Kendal Cooper

An exceptional model railway collection is being auctioned this summer – and it’s phenomenal in both size and quality.

Bids are open for Part 1 of the Davidge Collection which offers 400 lots of various model railway items covering 100 years of 0 and 00 gauge items.

From Hornby to Bassett Lowke, including limited-edition releases, clockwork, electric, two-rail and three-rail locomotives, this June 23 auction has it all.

Star lots include a collection of ACE Trains 0 gauge locomotives, including lot 292 which is a BR Class 9F Class A1, Evening Star 92220, locomotive and tender, guided at £400-£600.

Lot 135

In addition, there are various Hornby 00 live steam locomotive sets including lot 135 which is a limited edition 733/1000, LNER 4-6-2 Class A3, Flying Scotsman set, guided at £250-£350.

The collection was developed over a lifetime by the late Derek Davidge, whose passion for trains began in childhood. He continued to expand his layouts and collection up to his passing in 2021.

A lifelong steam and model railway enthusiast from Bristol, his wish was for the collection to be sold for others to extract some of the pleasure from its contents that he had.

Other than a handful of sentimental items kept for his grandchildren, this represents the complete collection he accumulated in that time. It is now being offered for auction by the family.

Part 1 of the Davidge Model Railway Collection will be offered by Hansons Auctioneers on June 23 and such is the quality and range of the items it is on track to sell for £30,000. The catalogue is live online now for people to browse and bid.

Part 2 will be offered  in Hansons’ July Specialist Toy Auction and it will include large amounts of boxed rolling stock, coaches and more.
