Militaria specialist joins team of valuers at Staffordshire saleroom Bishton Hall

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Militaria specialist Nick Thompson has joined the team of valuers at Hansons’ Staffordshire saleroom Bishton Hall.

And from January 2023 he will be offering free medals and militaria valuations every month at the Wolseley Bridge auction centre.

Nick, a former police detective and medal business owner from South Derbyshire, has developed a keen interest in war history over many years and is looking forward to sharing his expertise with clients.

“I have worked as a militaria consultant and valuer in the auction industry since 2014,” said Nick, a member of the Orders and Medals Research Society.

“I enjoy using my knowledge of medals and military history to provide vendors with accurate valuations. I also endeavour to explain all the processes involved in consigning items and, in many cases, collections into auction.

“I specialise in First and Second World War memorabilia and have a special interest in The Battle of the Somme in 1916, and German Militaria and badges of WW2.

“I am a collector myself and attend many fairs in the UK and Europe, which also enhances my knowledge.

“I understand how important items are to vendors who often think long and hard before selling objects which are part and parcel of military history.

“Clients who consign with me can be assured their historical treasures will be well cared for as we prepare to pass them on to the next custodian.

“They will also benefit from my passion and enthusiasm for research which is reflected in the cataloguing process. I ensure all items have excellent descriptions to connect them with prospective buyers.

“My previous medal business and contacts within the military community also enables me to reach out to people who may wish to buy.”

Nick Thompson will be holding Medals and Militaria valuations, by appointment only, at Bishton Hall, Wolseley Bridge, Staffs, from 10am-1pm, on the following dates:

18 January, 1 February, 1 March, 5 April, 10 May, 14 June, 5 July, 2 August, 6 September, 4 October, 1 November, 6 December (2023)
