Metallica fans have the chance to bid on a rare promo violin used by the legendary thrash metal band at a major concert.
The ‘magical’ piece of music memorabilia – one of only 100 – was used as a prop in 2019 at Metallica’s S&M2 gig in San Francisco, United States.
Now it’s set to go under the hammer at Hansons Auctioneers’ Music and Film Auction on September 21 with an estimate of £500-£600. And, according to the firm’s music consultant Claire Howell, it’s exceptionally scarce.
She said: “Items like this simply don’t come to market often. You may occasionally see something like this as a competition prize but that’s about it. The violin was originally donated to a school’s fund-raising auction by a generous EMI Records rep. It was purchased by our vendor.
“For any Metallica fan it’s a fantastic opportunity to own a magical piece of music memorabilia, the likes of which you may never see at auction again.”
American heavy metal band Metallica were formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. The band’s fast tempos, instrumentals and aggressive musicianship made them one of the founding big four thrash metal bands alongside Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer.
They’ve released 10 studio albums, four live albums, 12 video albums, a cover album, two extended plays, 37 singles and 39 music videos. They’ve won nine Grammy Awards and are ranked as one of the most commercially successful bands of all time, having sold over 125 million albums. They are regarded as one of the greatest bands of all time.
