Kate Bliss can help your jewellery gems deliver a spring windfall

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Jewellery and gold is flying high at auction and one of the county’s best known experts can help you find out if your treasures could sparkle at auction.

Kate Bliss, a familiar face from TV’s Bargain Hunt, will be at Albert’s Archives, Vintage and Loved, North Kilworth, on Thursday 22nd February, 10.30am-3pm. She will be offering free jewellery, silver and watch valuations – and no appointment is necessary.

If you like Kate’s guide price, items can be consigned into Hansons Auctioneers’ monthly sales. And if you have something other than jewellery you’d like to know more about, general antique valuations will be on offer.

Kate, a fellow of the Gemmological Association specialising in jewellery covering antique and vintage items to contemporary pieces, said: “I hope I can put plenty of smiles on faces. It’s always exciting to discover the potential value of something you own. Often people have inherited objects that stay forgotten in drawers for years, or they simply want to part with something they no longer need.

“All types of jewellery sells well at auction but demand is particularly strong for Edwardian and Victorian items. Recently, a 19th century foil closed back quartz rivière necklace hammered at £3,800 from a £600-£800 guide at Hansons. People are often amazed by the results achieved.

“Some exceptional Victorian jewellery is destined to dazzle in Hansons’ March Fine Art Auction, and there is still time to consign. Bidders will adore a striking garnet and gold brooch guided at £500-£700,  a 19th century French-made garnet and diamond-set mourning pendant locket, estimate £2,000-£3,000, and a garnet and 9ct gold serpent mourning necklace, £800-£1,200.  If you have something at home you’re considering selling, do pop to see me.”

Kate Bliss will be at Alberts Archives, Vintage and Loved, Unit 2, Evergreen Field, Pincet Lane, North Kilworth, Leicestershire, LE17 6NE. The venue hosts regular free valuation events. To find out more, visit www.hansonsauctioneers.co.uk or email [email protected].
