Gold and silver prices are soaring at auction and jewellery expert Kate Bliss can help you unleash a windfall.

Free jewellery and silver valuations will be available with Kate at Hansons Auction Centre, Heage Lane, Etwall, on Wednesday August 19, 10am-3pm. No appointment is necessary and valuations are carried out safely with Covid-19 rules respected in Hansons’ airy marquee. She will also be at Bishton Hall, Wolseley Bridge, Staffs, ST17 0XN, on Thursday, August 20, 10am-3pm.

The Bargain Hunt TV personality and regular consultant valuer at Hansons, said: “During my July visit to Etwall I was bowled over by a fabulous late 19th century German, gilt-metal singing bird box. A little bird pops out of the top at the turn of a key to sing its heart out. Objects like this have sold for in excess of £1,000 at auction.

“I was also delighted to recently value an Art Deco gold cigarette case which had been tucked away in a drawer for years. Dating from the reign of George VI, it weighs 101 grams and has a guide price of £1,600-£1,800.

“Gold prices have surged by 30% this year. In uncertain economic times investors put their money into tangible assets like gold, as well as silver and other precious metals.Consequently, we have noticed strong auction results for gold. For example, gold sovereigns have been selling for more than £300 compared to around £100 a year ago. Even broken gold sells well.”

Entries are invited for Hansons’ September 24 Derbyshire Fine Art Auction which includes jewellery, silver and watches, its monthly jewellery sales and specialist coin auctions.

Hansons’ head of jewellery Helen Smith is available for free jewellery valuations at Etwall Auction Centre on weekdays, except Tuesdays, 9am-5pm, or email: [email protected].
