A trio of Irish silver spoons achieved £2,500 in Hansons’ September sales.
The three George I Irish silver Hanoverian pattern dessert spoons with rat tail bowls by Thomas Bolton, Dublin, circa 1725, were in hot demand. They more than doubled their £800-£1,000 guide price.
They were among a collection of unusual and beautiful items in the Autumn Fine Art, Interiors and Antique Auction at Staffordshire saleroom Bishton Hall.
Bronze and silver vied for the lead position of the day but strong bidding ensured the silver spoons won the day.
Amanda Sales-McHale, from Hansons’ Staffordshire saleroom, said: “With commission and telephone bids in play, an internet bidder won the race to secure the prize. Consigned by a building company owner, the spoons smashed their estimate. It was a superb result all round.
“Our interiors section produced some winners too. For example, lot 588, proved popular. Bids soared to £200 for a pair of retro 1960s side tables featuring iconic design by Maurice Burke for Arkana England. They smashed their £60-£100 guide price.
“Quality, age-worn garden ornaments also attracted bidders. An Archibald Knox for Liberty’s of London vert di gris glazed 19th century sundial achieved £500. In similar vein, an Archibold Knox for Liberty’s of London glazed pedestal style bird bath hammered at £550.”
Entries are invited for all forthcoming sales at Bishton Hall.
