Vintage style is in vogue at auction making a set of eye-catching hats and bags – for sale in February – enticing for collectors.
The iconic headwear emerged in the Midlands but originates from France and America. The green straw hat, with criss-cross crown and a brim embellished in peach/cream and green foliage, was made in the 1950s by J L Hudson & Co – Detroit, USA.
Meanwhile two French hats and sweep us back to the 1960s/70s. The red cloche-style hat with scrolled peach flower and green leaf was made by ‘Marguerite, Paris’ while the startling beehive-style Hessian hat is by Regis, Paris.

Vintage evening bags are also popular and a silver bugle beaded example sweeps us back to the early 1950s. It would not look out of place perched on the arm of a Hollywood screen goddess.
The hats and bags, lot 2230 in Hansons’ February 15-20 Antiques and Collectors Auction, are guided at £120-£150.
