Hot jewellery lots enticing buyers in our March sales

 |  By andy

If you’d like to unleash a spring
windfall now’s the time to delve into your trinket boxes to hunt for an auction
star.

Our jewellery experts, including TV’s Kate Bliss, David Byrne, Isabel Murtough and Hansons’ head of jewellery Helen Smith offer free valuations all year round and would love to see your treasures. If you like the guide price,
you can consign your item to a future sale at Hansons Auctioneers.

Right now, jewellery is flying
high at Hansons with everything from amber beads and mourning jewellery to
Georgian rings exceeding estimates.

Helen Smith said: “The beauty of
auctions is that you can reach a worldwide audience and – if a bidding battle
ensues – your item can soar to success.

“For example, in Hansons’ March
jewellery sale, lot 374, an Art Deco, butterscotch amber bead necklace sold for
£680 from an estimate of £300-£400.

“Then there was lot 283, a late
Victorian/early Edwardian 9ct rose gold bracelet set with graduated oval opals.
It sold for £600 from a guide price of £150-£200.

“Rings to do well included Lot
242 (above), a gold Georgian ring featuring a cushion-shaped garnet flanked by seed
pearl accents and pink tourmaline. Its estimate was £80-£100 but it sold for
£160.

“I also loved, lot 243 (below), a
striking gold Georgian mourning ring set with four pearls in a cross shape
featuring a diamond and black enamel shoulders. It sold for £210 from a
£100-£150 estimate. We would love to see more jewellery from the early 1800s.”
