Jewels from the Georgian era sparked strong bidding in Hansons Auctioneers’ December (2022) Curated Ceramics Auction.
Ceramics consultant and sale manager Dr Richard Halliday said: “Bidding was brisk from all corners of the globe with traditional Georgian ceramics finding favour in another highly-successful ceramics sale.”
“Top-selling lots included a superb late 20th century hand-painted Royal Worcester fruit pattern ginger jar and cover, c. 1990-5 which made a hammer price of £1,200 and deservedly so. It is beautifully painted with fruit and signed S. Weston.
“Anther sale highlight was an early 19th century blue and white transfer-printed Durham Ox series footed oval comport, c. 1815-20. It is decorated with the ‘Withers’ scene to the interior and a scene of cows in a landscape to the exterior. It was contested to £950.
“An early 19th century Staffordshire pearlware clock figure group, c. 1820, achieved £440. It has two cherubs supporting a central pocket watch holder surmounted by a cockerel.
“Delftware is in demand and a superb pair of 18th century tin glazed earthenware blue and white delft dedicated plates, c. 1765-70, reached £260. Both are decorated with floral vignettes to the border and HP DONKER, IIV D MARKT to the centres.
“Finally, a mid-19th century blue and white transfer-printed floral decorated bidet, c. 1830-50, decorated with passion flowers to the interior, sold for £150.
