 |  By andy

Kate Bliss, a popular star on TV antique shows, is heading to Oxfordshire to do free valuations next week.

Kate will be at The Victoria Arms, Mill Lane, Old Marston, on January 23, from 11am-3pm – the first of four free events at the venue in 2019.

Kate specialises in valuing jewellery, silver and watches and is looking forward to uncovering treasures, which she hopes will make their owners a windfall at auction.

Kate is a consultant valuer for Hansons Auctioneers and if people are happy with her guide price they can consign their item to auction on the day.

Kate said: “I’m really looking forward to coming to Oxfordshire, meeting people and seeing lots of fascinating items. Over the years I have come across some stunning objects at free valuation events like this.

“If you think something may be of value, don’t be shy, please bring it along – the family silver, old watches gathering dust in drawers, rings, bracelets, necklaces and brooches. You may be pleasantly surprised by their value. They could have significant historical importance, too.”

At Hansons’ last Fine Art Jewellery Auction a watch which was bought in the 1970s for £300 and wornin the garden by its late owner sold for £51,100. The rare, circa 1970 Tudor Rolex ‘Montecarlo’ steel wristwatch was found at a free valuation event.

In the silver section, Lot 194, a Liberty pocket cigarette case designed by Archibald Knox, sold for £2,000 to a UK private buyer.

Jewellery to shine bright included Lot 15, an Art Deco diamond and jade brooch which was contested to £1,050. Meanwhile, Lot 5, a fancy yellow diamond trilogy cluster ring reached £5,600.

Kate Bliss will offer free valuations at The Victoria Arms, Mill Lane, Old Marston, Oxfordshire, OX3 0QA, on January 23; April 24; June 26 and September 25, 11am-3pm. General antique valuations also available.
