Enjoy FREE jewellery, watch and silver valuations with TV’s Kate Bliss on April 5

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Jewellery is hot property at auction with buyers flocking to find something unique that can’t be found on the high street.

If you’re sitting on unwanted treasures, TV celebrity Kate Bliss – a familiar face on TV’s Bargain Hunt, Flog It! and Secret Dealers – can help you turn them into a windfall.

She will be carrying our free jewellery, silver and watch valuations at Hansons Auctioneers in Heage Lane, Etwall, Derbyshire, on Thursday, April 5, from 10am-4pm. Here, she picks out some of the shining jewellery stars in recent Hansons’ sales to give you an indication of the finds that are soaring to glory.

Captivating colours

A suite of multi gemstone and gold items (above), comprising a pair of earrings, brooch and clasp, caught the eye of several bidders. Displaying multi-coloured clusters including a cultured pearl and cabochon-cut red, pink and green tourmalines, amethyst, citrine, aquamarine and topaz, the set sold finally at £600.

Heart of romance

Jewellery and romance are forever entwined as items are often bought as a sign of love. Consequently, an open heart-shaped brooch (see main image), alternately claw set with diamonds and rubies, was hotly contested to £860 at auction.

Amber alert

If you have any amber tucked away do dig it out because it’s hot property right now. The market for amber has been buoyant for some time and some amber beads proved a hit at auction. The rich butterscotch colour of two necklaces saw them sell well above estimate at £560.

Golden opportunity

Gold remains a steady bet and a wonderfully decorative Saudi Arabian gold fringe necklet (below right), formed of fancy beaded hexagonal shape sections, with additional matching centre section to the front, suspended by a rope chain, soared to £720 in the saleroom.

Dazzling diamonds

Diamonds are always sought after and auctions are excellent for both buyers and sellers. That’s because sellers will often receive more money than they could gain elsewhere thanks to the worldwide market created by online bidding. Buyers, meanwhile, will often find large, high quality diamonds that would cost many thousands more to buy brand new. In recent Hansons’ sales, a three-tier cluster ring, with a 1.5 carat centre, sold at £2,200 (above left). Meanwhile, an Art Deco diamond and platinum ring, with a 1.0 carat centre old cut diamond and 18 more old cut and rose cut diamonds, sold for £1,500 (above left).

Kate Bliss will be at Hansons Auctioneers, Heage Lane, Etwall, on March 5, from 10am-4pm. No appointment necessary. To find out more, email [email protected] or call 01283 733988.
