Doll power came to the fore in the June 7 Dolls, Toys and Teddy Bears sale at Bishton Hall, Staffordshire. Here consultant doll and teddy bear valuer Janet Rawnsley shares some of the top results.
A Victorian childhood
A glorious French Jumeau bisque head doll with original Fine paperweight eyes was sold for £1,250
A fine and beautiful Hessemobil tin plate clockwork car with key and running beautifully, rare in box with original instructions and a very special toy in remarkable condition, sold for £360., together with a charming pre WW1 Steiff teddy bear that sold for £750.

A beautiful and very seldom seen Golden issue monopoly set, with the glorious 30s playing pieces, and ready to be enjoyed and played with today…sold for £60, and a large selection of Lead coco cub figures from Cadbury Bournville-early promotional collectibles selling for £65.
Gems from the 1960s
Frido plastics Sasha dolls from Stockport took centre stage, with an experimental eye version selling for £2,200 and her sister Ballet version selling for £1,050 – remarkable prices for these highly regarded dolls, originally designed by the Swiss artist Sasha Morganthaler and made in a plastic football factory in Stockport. Hansons sell these dolls regularly and this was a great pair.
Action Man loft rescue
Turning to boys’ toys, a Palitoy Action Man and his endless military outfits created a lot of interest and sold for £270, after being in a loft for 55 years.
Other lots to do well included rare Julip model horses and, even rarer, their stable which made £320. They are very hard to find and much desired 1960s collectables.
Heading into the modern era we were thrilled to see a beautiful German boxed teddy bear and rare roller set as teddy sets out with his friend in the sidecar (£100). It was a joy to behold.
However, the standout piece was a Bluebird Polly Pocket childhood favourite set of five compacts which achieved £750. This was because it included the princess clock which is difficult to find – a thrilling result.
Doll, Toy and Teddy Bear sales are held at Hansons’ Staffordshire saleroom Bishton Hall. Clients are invited to consign single pieces or lifetime collections across all the decades.
