Iconic 20th Century & Modern Design Auctions

Demand for beautiful, rare or fascinating 20th century objects increases with every passing year. Stunning design, artistic brilliance and extraordinary people shine in Hansons’ Iconic 20th Century and Modern Design Auctions.

This diverse area includes beautiful items from the Arts and Crafts and aesthetic movements, Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. Glassware, ceramics, fine ornaments, silver, metalware and paintings.

70s Teak Back In Vogue

But design changes with every decade – as do buying trends.  Mid-20th Century furniture, such as Ercol, has been popular for some time and quality teak furniture, often from the 1970s, is a rising star.

Whether it’s utilitarian or ornamental, a modern vase or an arts and crafts tapestry, objects tucked away in a cabinet at home, often inherited, may be more desirable than you think.

As well as Modern Design sales we offer 20th Century Design Auctions which bring together eclectic finds that define a decade or celebrate important people.

Iconic Figures Celebrated

For example, a card signed by Captain Tom, an iconic figure during the Covid-19 pandemic, sold for £1,050. Captain Tom raised millions for the NHS in the run-up to his 100th birthday. The sale of his card aided London’s Florence Nightingale Museum. And talking of legends, a set of ear moulds worn by legendary F1 racing driver Ayrton Senna sold for £520.

It’s a fascinating and eclectic market place celebrating 20th century legends and design achievements. If you have an item, or collection, that may suit these auctions, book a free valuation.

We hold specialist Modern Design and Iconic 20th Century Auctions throughout the year.
