Medals & Militaria

Some of the biggest moments in world history are told through wartime and militaria objects. And some of Hansons Auctioneers’ most fascinating finds emerge in this richly diverse area.

Everything from rare photographs from conflict, such as the Boer War, servicemen’s records, bravery medals, vintage uniform, spy gadgets or aircraft relics are valued and sold. And they achieve strong hammer prices in Hansons Auctioneers’ Medals and Militaria Auctions.

Wartime History Revealed

This eclectic area brings history to life, particularly when it comes to the WW1 and WW2. For example, a lucky 1889 penny that saved a soldier’s life in the First World War sold for £4,200 at Hansons. It was tucked away in the serviceman’s breast pocket. This tactic was often used by soldiers to protect themselves against enemy fire. Cigarette boxes and Bibles were also used as a form of protection.

Life stories are retold. Unique military records bring history back to life. We see images from the battlefield, military documents, cap badges and buttons, diaries and log books, helmets and uniforms, binoculars, compasses, edged weapons and firearms. We see sets of bravery medals from the Second World War and first World War. We have even read diaries from the Somme in WW1.

Stories of Bravery

Each private militaria collections reminds us of people who fought wars. We can retell individual stories of bravery and learn from the past.  It is an honour to remember their battles, sacrifices, experiences and accomplishments.
