Dr Richard Halliday, Head of Curated Ceramics at Hanson Holloways Ross in Banbury, Oxfordshire, reports on a great return to the company with his first Curated Ceramics Auction of 2022, which took place on July 1.
He said: “Bidding was brisk with many hundreds of buyers from all corners of the globe registering to take part in the auction. The sale included three private collections that covered British and Oriental ceramics spanning three centuries. Some of the sale highlights were:
A pair of early 19th century pearlware Anthony and Cleopatra large figure groups, c. 1820. Sold to a private collector for £1200 hammer.
An early 19th century blue and white transfer-printed Spode Indian Sporting series drainer, c. 1815. It is marked to the underside and printed with Shooting at the Edge of the Jungle. 32 cm wide. Sold for £600 hammer.
An early 19th century blue and white transfer-printed Spode & Copeland & Garrett Floral series part dinner service, c. 1828-33. Sold to a collector for £600 hammer.
An early 19th century blue and white transfer-printed Riley Drapers Arms platter, c. 1825. It is marked to the underside and printed with a central armorial for the Worshipful Company of the Drapers, Coventry. 47 cm wide. Sold to an institution for £310 hammer.
An early 19th century blue and white transfer-printed Spode Greek series butter boat, c. 1810. It is marked to the underside. 9cm wide. Sold to a collector in the USA for £300 hammer.
