Culinary find fit for a king destined to stir up interest – dig out your royal treasures!

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Antiques with royal connections come in all shapes and sizes and a recent find demonstrates that literally.

A rare 19th century chest is packed to the brim with hundreds of differently shaped metal pastry, confectionery and culinary cutters, moulds and piping nozzles.

The pastry set belonged to Louis Cabuzet who was chef to the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII (1841–1910). He took to the throne after the passing of his mother Queen Victoria in 1901 and reigned until 1910. He was Prince of Wales and heir apparent to the British throne for almost 60 years.

During his time in royal kitchens, Cabuzet cooked at Buckingham Palace for Queen Victoria. He must have been particularly talented as he was head hunted by the Earl of Sefton and became head chef at Croxteth Park.

The cooking utensils will be offered in Hansons’ May 16 Monarchs and Majesty Auction, estimate £200-£300.

Royal Memorabilia Invited

Entries of all types of royal memorabilia are invited until April 28 for the May 16 Monarchs and Majesty Auction. A valuation event to source treasures for this sale will be held at Hansons, Heage Lane, Etwall, Derbyshire, on April 22, 10am-noon. To find out more, or to discuss a potential consignment, call 01283 733988 or email Isabel Murtough: [email protected].
