Couple’s passion for collecting celebrated in Christmas Ceramics and Glass Auction

 |  By andy

A couple’s passion for collecting will be celebrated in Hansons’ December 9 Curated Christmas Ceramics and Glass Auction.

Gwen and Stan Jenkins began their passion for antiques in the early 1950s when they scoured second-hand shops and house sales for choice period items to furnish their first home together.

A chance find of an early Royal Worcester plate sparked Gwen’s interest in English Ceramics and for the next 40 years she became an avid collector. For a short period, she was also a dealer. Gwen specialised in wares from Liverpool, Leeds and other English potteries from the 18th and early 19th Century.

She was a long-time member of the Northern Ceramics Society and Friends of Blue. Several pieces from her large collection were borrowed for exhibits by museums in Liverpool and Hanley including the “True Blue” exhibition at the Wedgwood Museum, Barlaston, in 1998. Items from her collection were also used to illustrate reference works on early English pottery.

The couple’s collection will be sold in a Curated Christmas Ceramics and Glass Auction, catalogued by Hansons’ ceramics specialist Dr Richard Halliday. To find out more, emila [email protected]
