Could you ring in the New Year with a windfall? FREE January valuation event with TV antiques expert Charles Hanson

 |  By Kendal Cooper

An auction windfall could launch your new year in style thanks to a free Staffordshire event hosted by TV’s Charles Hanson.

Time and again, forgotten items turn out to be valuable and you can find out for free if any unwanted objects are auction treasures.

Charles, a familiar face on Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip, will be offering free valuations on Saturday, January 8, 10am-1pm, at Bishton Hall in Staffordshire.

The event will launch 2022’s weekly valuation events at the Georgian mansion at Wolseley Bridge. The period property is Hansons Auctioneers’ Staffordshire saleroom and experts will be on hand there from Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm, and Saturdays, 10am-1pm, all year round.

They can assess all types of antiques and collectables including paintings, ceramics, toys, railwayana, stamps, books, works on paper, militaria, coins, jewellery, watches and more. Plus, items can be consigned into monthly Bishton Hall Antiques and Collectors sales.

Charles said: “I very much hope people will dig out their treasures and pop down to see me. Every year we discover valuable items that have been tucked away in attics, garages and wardrobes that deliver their owners a welcome surprise under the hammer. What a way to beat the January blues!

“There is huge demand from all over the world for all types of antiques and collectables including, toys, art works, jewellery and vintage designer watches. Something languishing in a bedside drawer could be worth hundreds, or even thousands, of pounds.

“Just before Christmas a globe brought along to Bishton Hall for free valuation, purchased for £150 at an antiques fair, sold for £116,000. It turned out to be Elizabethan dating back to circa 1550 but its owner had no idea.

“Aside from the free valuations, Bishton Hall is a lovely place to visit. People can enjoy a stroll in the Temple Garden or refreshments at The Antique Bean Tearoom. So why not make a morning of it and pop to Bishton for a January treat?”

Charles Hanson will be at Bishton Hall, Wolseley Bridge, Staffs, ST17 0XN, on Saturday January 8, 10am-1pm, and once a month thereafter. To find out more about free valuations at Bishton, contact Mark Holder: [email protected] or call 07568 397 228.
