Charles Hanson set to take to the rostrum at his first London auction

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Hansons London hosts its first auction in February and leading the event will be TV celebrity Charles Hanson.

The well-known auctioneer – an entertainer and showman in the saleroom – launched Hansons London in January, an expansion of Hansons Auctioneers in Derbyshire which he started in 2005.

He said: “It’s been a long-held dream to expand to London. I turn 40 this year and decided that, if I didn’t do it now, I never would.

“My London team, supported by staff from our Derbyshire saleroom in Etwall, have worked very hard to organise a fascinating auction brimming with wonderful antiques and collectables. We have some 567 lots going under the hammer.

“I hope to see a packed auction room and, of course, we will also have bidders all over the world online as our auctions can be viewed live through www.the-saleroom.com.

“I will be on the rostrum auctioneering, which is what I love. I like to bring fun, passion and drama to the saleroom.”

The auction will take place at The Normansfield Theatre, Langdon Down Centre, 2A Langdon Park, Teddington, on Saturday, February 10 from 12 noon. Items can be viewed on the day of the auction from 9.15am and also on Friday, February 9, from 2-7pm.

Mr Hanson, a well-known face on TV’s Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip and Flog It!, will also be filmed during the auction for a new BBC antiques-related show currently in production.

“I love to see TV cameras at my auctions and it’s good to know our first London sale will be in the spotlight,” said Mr Hanson. “Not only can people enjoy an entertaining experience, they can taste the excitement of bidding and may even be on television.”

Hansons London launched in January and has a Valuations and Consignment Office at 77 Bridge Road, Hampton Court Village, KT8 9HH. It hosts free valuations on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-4pm. Entries are invited until March 3 for the second Hansons London auction on March 24.

Charles Hanson and fellow TV celebrity Kate Bliss will offer free valuations on selected dates throughout the year at the Hampton Court Village office. Charles is due there on February 7, 10am-4pm, while Kate will be there on February 16, 11am-4pm. To find out more, call 020 8979 7954.
