Popular TV antiques expert Charles Hanson is returning to Northamptonshire to uncover auction treasures after enjoying a ‘sensational’ day in the county last year.
Charles, a regular on shows like Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip, will be at Kelmarsh Hall, Kelmarsh, Northamptonshire, on Thursday, March 17, from 11am-2pm.
He said he just had to return after being overwhelmed by the response from the people of Northamptonshire at an event held at the same venue last November – which led to some incredible finds.
Charles, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “Around 80 people came along to Kelmarsh Hall last time. I was completely overwhelmed and delighted by the response. It was truly sensational.
“We made some incredible finds too, including a fragment of bedcurtain reputed to have been embroidered by Mary, Queen of Scots, below. The framed crewelwork sample, which bore an inscription attributing it to the 16th century Scottish Queen, made £3,200 at auction from a guide price of £400-£600.
“Fascinating historical finds like this make my day, and I’m delighted for our clients when their items excel under the hammer. I hope to uncover more amazing objects at Kelmarsh in March and, to make things even better this time round, I have arranged a four-strong team of valuers. You could say we’re the A-team!”
Joining Charles at the event will be Hansons’ books and works on paper expert Jim spencer, a man renowned the world over for sourcing rare Harry Potter first editions and important antiquarian books.
Toys and railwayana expert Mark Holder will also be on hand together with coins, banknotes and medals and militaria expert William Hayward.
“It’s extremely unusual for so many of Hansons’ top valuers to be together in one place at the same time,” said Charles. “It really is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Northamptonshire. I hope they’ll make the most of it. I can’t wait to return.
