Following a six-month research sabbatical, Dr Richard Halliday returns to Hansons Auctioneers.
He has been appointed Head of Curated Ceramics at Hanson Holloway’s Ross in Banbury Oxfordshire.
Richard was awarded his PhD in the field of History of Art by Manchester Metropolitan University in 2018. He is fifth generation in the world of antiques and has eight published reference books to his credit.
He is writing his ninth publications which details the whole process of engraving a copper-plate for the transferware process; this has never been recorded or detailed previously.
He has lectured on ceramics in the UK and the USA for the past 10 years. He spent nearly 10 years as an active Trustee of the Spode Museum Trust, a former member of the Northern Ceramic Society committee and committee member of the Friends of Blue and is currently a board member of the Transferware Collectors Club. His passion is for British earthenware from the late 18th and early 19th century and he owns what he describes as a ‘modest collection’.
He will hold five Curated Ceramics sales a year at Banbury and will be at the saleroom every Tuesday and Thursday to offer free valuations and consign items.
The first Curated Ceramics at Hanson Holloway’s Ross sale will be held on July 1, with the catalogue due online on June 16.
