From Bonnie Prince Charlie to the Beatles, Hansons’ new Kent saleroom delivered an exciting Rock, Pop and Antiques Auction in September.
Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “We had a wonderfully successful first auction at our new Kent saleroom in Penshurst, near Tunbridge Wells. We were delighted with the results and the hard work of saleroom manager Justin Matthews. He has swiftly created a market across Kent and Sussex to enable Hansons to engage worldwide buyers and deliver a good service to consigners across Penshurst and neighbouring regions.
Highlights included lot 232, a painted portrait miniature depicting Prince Charles Edwin Stewart, The Bonnie Prince (1720-1788). Uncovered in a Kent bureau, it sold for a premium-inclusive total of £4,685. (hammer £3,400)
A collection of Beatles memorabilia raised more than £25,000, a highlight being lot 43, a group of 14 singles which achieved a premium-inclusive total of £4,549 (hammer £3,000).
Victorian jewellery was also in demand. A circa 1870s half-pearl and diamond locket (lot 205) realised a premium-inclusive total of £3,954 (hammer £3,000) and a collection of coins made £15,000. Highlights included an Isle of Man 1974 proof gold set which realised £3,500. Another glittering result came courtesy of lot 206, a 1970s 18ct gold and coral necklace which hammered at £1,800.
Meanwhile, in the garden of Kent a 17th century Dutch painting of tulips and roses from the Circle of Simon Pietersz. Verelst (The Hague 1644-1721 London) achieved a premium-inclusive £1,911 (lot 222).
