Beatle brilliance! Music legend Paul McCartney gives auction gift to couple who lost baby

 |  By Kendal Cooper

A Nottingham couple have been ‘blown away’ by Sir Paul McCartney’s decision to donate a signed Beatles boxed set to be sold at auction to support a charity they launched in 2013.

One of the biggest musicians of all time agreed to help the Forever Stars charity raise much-needed funds after being contacted by Richard Daniels.

Business owner Richard, 41, and wife Michelle Daniels, 39, a nurse, launched the charity to help bereaved parents following the tragic loss of their baby daughter Emily, who was stillborn on December 19, 2013, at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Richard, from Chilwell, said: “The donation is amazing, I am absolutely blown away by it. I was in shock when we received the email confirming the gift from Sir Paul McCartney’s office, which we contacted in the hope he would help us.

“It’s a generous gift from one of the world’s biggest stars. I can’t begin to imagine how much we may raise from this but I’m sure it will be substantial.”

The Beatles boxed set will go under the hammer on March 14 at a specialist music sale at Hansons Auctioneers, in Heage Lane, Etwall, near Derby.

Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “We always do as much as we can to support charity causes and this topic is one close to my heart. I very much hope Paul McCartney’s kind donation will raise a great deal of money for this charity.”

So far, Forever Stars has raised more than £250,000 – £115,000 of which was used to build Serenity Suite, a bereavement area for parents who have stillborn babies or suffer the distress of neonatal baby loss at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Following that success, parents contacted the charity to ask for help to open a similar facility at Nottingham’s City Hospital. It opened last December, aided by an £80,000 donation from Forever Stars. In February the charity announced a £1 million Forever In Bloom Appeal to develop a remembrance garden for bereaved parents.

The Paul McCartney-signed Beatles box set, will be sold on March 14 at Hansons Auctioneers, Heage Lane, Etwall, Derbyshire, with an estimate of £250-£500. To find out more, call 01283 733988 or email [email protected]
