A golden opportunity to meet one of Britain’s best-loved antiques experts is coming up in Derbyshire.

Eric Knowles, a familiar face on Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip and Going For A Song, will host a special valuation event at Hansons Auctioneers’ Etwall saleroom – and he hopes to uncover hidden treasure.

Eric, a respected authority in the world of antiques, specialises in ceramics and glassware but has a broad general knowledge amassed over decades. He will be at Hansons’  Heage Lane headquarters on Thursday, March 7, from 10am-4pm, offering free valuations by appointment.

He said: “I thoroughly enjoy coming to Derbyshire. I’ve been fortunate enough to discover some fascinating objects in the area over the years, and I’ve met some  wonderful people.

“If you have a special object at home, perhaps something you have an inkling just might be important or valuable, do pop to see me. I am happy to assess all kinds of antiques and collectables though my speciality is ceramics and glassware.”

Eric’s expertise provides support for Hansons’ Fine Art and Decorative Arts departments. The latter focuses on iconic 20th century design. It seeks items such as Moorcroft Pottery, Lalique glass, Dame Lucie Rie stoneware, Liberty, studio pottery, art glass, Art Nouveau, Troika, Clarice Cliff, sculpture, metalwork, Arts and Crafts, Modernist, Brutalist and contemporary wares.

Eric is a published author on Victoriana, Royal memorabilia, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and René Lalique and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He has lectured at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum and national museums in Australia, Canada, the US, South Africa, France, Germany and the Czech Republic.

Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons, said: “Eric is a legend in the world of antiques, a man with immense knowledge and wisdom. It’s a privilege to work alongside him.”
