Mark Holder to lead new toy nostalgia auctions at Hansons’ Staffordshire saleroom

 |  By Adrian Gravity

Hansons Auctioneers’ specialist sales have been enhanced by the appointment of toy expert Mark Holder.

Mark will be based at the firm’s Staffordshire saleroom, Bishton Hall, and will lead new Country House Toy Nostalgia Auctions at the Georgian mansion.

Mark is well known in the model railway and collectables toy world. He has traded in toys for many years.

He said: “I started selling on eBay, then expanded into toy fairs across the country. This quickly grew into a retail shop which is still trading and staffed today.

Mark’s ethos right from the start was simple: “The toy business is all about the buying. If you buy right, the selling will take care of itself.

“I was so focused on buying, I amassed a huge stash of quality toys from deceased estates and lifetime collections. It’s amazing how much stuff is out there! Even with eBay, toy fairs and a retail shop, I still couldn’t sell it quickly enough. It was at this point I branched out into toy auctions.

“Fast forward to today, and I still travel the country hunting out the best quality toys. I enjoy the hunt and meeting fellow collectors. I still find time to attend the bigger model railway shows as well.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge at Hansons, working alongside managing director Charles Hanson. We plan to build upon his toy auction success by adding this new toy department at Bishton Hall.”

Charles Hanson said: “Toy auctions have been one of Hansons’ biggest growth areas in recent years. Our specialist sales have gone from strength to strength at our Derbyshire headquarters. I realised there was room for further toy auction expansion. Bishton Hall provides an ideal setting and Mark is the perfect man to lead this new initiative.”

Bishton Hall’s first Country House Toy Nostalgia Auction is due to take place on July 10. To consign items for all future sales, email: [email protected]
