Scary fun for pinball wizards – and fans of the Addams Family – uncovered

 |  By Adrian Gravity

Every conceivable object comes to auction but one sparking particular interest in the saleroom is a dramatically colourful Addams Familypinball machine.

Made in 1992, it’s in good working order and would make an impressive addition to a games room or, perhaps, that DIY pub you built at the bottom of the garden in lockdown!

There is minor cabinet wear but the Addams Family come to life beautifully in the lively graphics, not to mention the authentic sounds and voices.

The Addams Family was the quirky fictional creation of American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938. His oddball characters went on to inspire TV shows and films galore. They include Gomez and Morticia Addams, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Lurch the butler and the Thing, a disembodied hand which joined the Addams clan in the 1950s.

Unusual items like this do not come cheap and the auction estimate is £4,500-£6,500 but similar vintage versions have been priced at more than £13,000.

The Addams Family pinball machine, lot 499, is due to be sold in Hansons’ July 22-23 Toy Auction. Catalogue www.hansonslive.co.uk. To find out more, or to arrange a free valuation, email David Wilson-Turner: [email protected].
