The discovery of two hugely rare Fabergé flowers – described by Charles Hanson as his ‘most significant find ever’ – will be celebrated at a special event.
A viewing of the flowers and a drinks reception will be held at Strawberry Hill House, Twickenham, on Tuesday, June 5, from 4-8pm.
In addition, Charles Hanson MRICS, owner of Hansons London which made the discovery, will give a talk on The Genius of Fabergé at 6.30pm.
A short, guided tour of Strawberry Hill House will also be available, in return for a donation to Strawberry Hill Trust, at 5pm.
The magnificent property was once home to Horace Walpole. Born in 1717, Walpole was a pivotal figure in 18th Century society, literature, art and architecture.
It’s a fitting venue for the Fabergé flowers, which were brought in for valuation at Hansons London’s Hampton Court Village office after their owner saw the discovery of a similar flower on TV’s antiques Roadshow in March. It was valued at a record £1 million.
The two newly discovered Fabergé finds are, expected to fetch a combined total of up to £500,000 at auction. They will be sold separately on Monday, June 11 at 7.30pm at The Saleroom, Normansfield Theatre, Langdon Down Centre, 2A Langdon Park, Teddington, TW11 9PS.
The flowers will also be available to view at the theatre auction venue on Sunday, June 10 from noon-5pm and from 9am-11am and at 6pm on the day of the sale. Charles Hanson will give a talk at 6.30pm prior to the auction.
