Could a windfall be hiding in your wardrobe? Let vintage clothing expert Notty Hornblower be the judge in Stoke and Sheffield

 |  By andy

Notty Hornblower, an eminent UK expert on vintage clothing and textiles, is coming to Stoke and Sheffield to do free valuations – and she would love to see your antique and designer wares.

Notty, who owns Hope House Costume Museum in Alstonefield on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border, is hugely knowledgeable and loves nothing more than uncovering great finds.

On Tuesday, June 12 she will be at The Abbeydale Picture House, 387 Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, from 10am-2pm. Then on June 21, She will be at Longton Cricket Club, Ripon Road, Blurton, Stoke, from 10.30am-3pm.

On both occasions she will be carrying out free valuations on behalf of Hansons Auctioneers, which holds regular vintage clothing and textile auctions. General antiques, jewellery, silver and watches can also be valued.

Notty said: “I see some wonderful items brought along to free valuation days and I’m really looking forward to seeing what the people of Sheffield and Stoke will discover tucked away in their wardrobes and attics.”

Vintage clothing is hugely popular and Hansons has sold everything from vintage lace and period dresses to wartime clothing, a movie star ballgown and even Queen Victoria’s bloomers.

Clothes take us back in time and a typical example in Hansons’ June 18 textile and costume auction is an Art Deco wedding dress from 1939 in cream satin with tapered sleeves, press stud fastening, bias cut skirt, oval neckline and ruched embroidery on the bodice inset with crystals. With an estimate of £60-£80, it comes complete with an original wedding photo.

Notty began accumulating her huge collection of costumes in her 30s, harnessing a fascination with history and clothes which began she was a small girl. This led to her opening her clothing museum. She is still collecting and is as passionate about vintage clothing and textiles as ever.

Items can be entered into a future auction at Hansons Auctioneers, Heage Lane, Etwall, Derbyshire. To find out about all our regional valuation days, visit www.hansonsauctioneers.co.uk.
