So this is what you want, what you really, really want! Hot lots in our Objects of Desire sale

 |  By andy

Hansons Auctioneers first-ever luxury handbag and accessories sale turned out to be bags of fun with high-end designer brands such as Chanel, Dior, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Cartier and Alexander McQueen proving irresistible to buyers.

Along with sought-after bags, the auction included a rich mix of designer items included scarves, sunglasses and costume jewellery, all from top makes.

Helen Smith, head of jewellery at Hansons and manager of the Luxury Handbags and Objects of Desire Auction, said: “Both designer accessories and bags were highly sought after in a fun and fashionable evening auction, accompanied by bubbles and nibbles to set the scene for a party occasion.

“Many items exceeded their estimates such as lot 1274, a Chanel travel line pink tone flap handbag with a summer vibe. It made £900

“Another winner was lot 1278, a Chanel WOC wallet with chain which sold for £900. Then there was lot 1352, a vintage Chanel black leather handbag which made £500. Chanel, items renowned for chic, timeless elegance, proved to be a major hit.

“Another make to impress was Christian Dior. Lot 1353, a baby pink, quilted Lady Dior handbag sold above estimate at £900.

“Victoria Beckham designs were prized with lot 1333, a City Victoria bag, selling above estimate at £700. Also sought after was lot 1339, a stylish Mulberry Bayswater bag which fetched £320.

“The evening didn’t just cater for women, there were men’s ties in abundance by Versace and Nina Ricci. One was bought by a grandmother for her grandson who worked in London, along with a gorgeous weekend vintage Amazona travel bag by Loewe, lot 1307. Created from soft grained leather in camel, it caught the attention of many buyers.

“Another hit was lot 1256, a stylish pair of Cartier Santos Dumont aviator sunglasses. Proving there is strong demand for stylish eyewear, these silver-tone framed sunglasses made £260 from an estimate of £50-£80.

“Ideal to go with the glasses was lot 1258, a stunning Panthere print scarf with jewel. It made over estimate at £210 proving that named silk scarves from the likes of Cartier are highly collectable.

“Vintage costume jewellery to shine included lot 1271, Chanel clip-on earrings set to the centre with imitation pearls with a gold tone, multi-rope surround. They made £200 from a low estimate of £80. Lot 1272, vintage Chanel clip-on earrings with imitation pearls set to the centre with a gold tone metal and interwoven black leather ribbon surround reached £190 from a low estimate of £80.”

All items were sold on July 3, 2018 at Hansons’ Luxury Handbags and Objects of Desire Autumn. Hansons is inviting entries for future luxury handbags auctions as well as for its autumn Fine Art Jewellery sale. To find our more, email [email protected] or call 01283 733988.
