An ‘exquisite’ Russian necklace unearthed in London is expected to sell for thousands of pounds at auction.
The gold necklace – featuring more than 50 diamonds and an aquamarine stone – was taken along to Hansons London’s Hampton Court Village office for free valuation.
And its style, design and the date it was made point to the fact it could well be a piece by Russian jewellery firm Fabergé.
Owner of Hansons London, Charles Hanson, said: “It’s an exquisite necklace and more than 100 years old. It is of such quality it would have graced the neck of a lady moving in the highest social circles. Its auction estimate is £10,000-£15,000.
“We believe it to be Fabergé but, though that has not been confirmed, further investigations have revealed it is indeed Russian and dates back to circa 1901 when Britain moved from the Victorian to the Edwardian era.
“This was when the House of Fabergé was at the pinnacle of its success, setting the highest standards not just for jewellery makers in Russia but all over the world.
“It’s not only the size of the aquamarine stone that dazzles but the generous combination of more than 50 diamonds which add sparkling detail to the upper section of the pendant.
“We are looking forward to selling this wonderful necklace at our London sale in September. And if you have any beautiful pieces of jewellery you would love to have valued or find out more about, jewellery expert Kate Bliss will be with us at our Hampton Court Village office on August 17.”
The necklace will be sold during Hansons London September 8-9 auction at the Normansfield Theatre, Langdon Down Centre, 2A Langdon Park, Teddington, TW11 9PS. Auction entries are invited until August 18.
