As the Hoodwinked robins prepare for their final flight, collectors are queuing up to bid for their favourite sculptures as the online auction goes live.
The 33 robin sculptures which have brightened the streets of Nottingham all summer are now being spruced up ready for their last public appearance before going under the hammer.
They will be joined by two new – never seen before – robins at our illuminated Farewell to the Flock event at Fernleigh House and Gardens from 12-14 October, then will be sold at the Hoodwinked Grand Auction on Thursday 18 October. TV auctioneer Charles Hanson who is running the auction said: “I will relish the opportunity to raise money for such a good cause as the Nottinghamshire Hospice, celebrating with the merry men and ladies of Nottingham, and being the ultimate ‘Prince of Thieves’!”
The trail has been hailed a huge success with more than 97,000 sculpture unlocks from the the Hoodwinked app and many more visiting the trail over the summer. People can carry on unlocking sculptures at the Farewell event so it looks likely that total unlocks will top 100,000.
Anita Harris, head of fundraising at Nottinghamshire Hospice said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming the public to our beautiful gardens to see the robins spectacularly lit up at our Farewell event. The gardens, which will be illuminated with an amazing display of lights, will provide a magical setting for their final public appearance.
“It will be sad to say goodbye to the robins but I know that they will be going to good homes. We’ve already had a lot of interest from prospective buyers so if you’ve got your eye on one of the sculptures make sure you get your bids in! The money raised will help us care for patients in their last year of life.”
