16th century portrait | William of Orange
Lot 432 | Circle of Adriaen Thomasz Key (Flemish, c.1545 – c.1589). Portrait of William ‘The Orange’ known as William “The Silent” (1533-1584), bust length, in gold embroidered black doublet with white lace ruffle, oil on panel, 43.5cm x 35cm, in later ebonised and tortoiseshell ripple effect frame. The portrait refers to a number of portraits of William of Orange by the artist, presumably based on a full-length portrait, no longer in existence. Autograph versions, also half-length, can be found in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, Madrid (dated 1579), and in the Mauritshuis, The Hague. £3,000-£5,000

Flemish work of furniture art
Lot 446 | Flemish ebony, ebonised, painted and hardstone mounted cabinet, probably Antwerp 17th century. A rectangular top with a hinged lid opens to reveal an 18th/19th century painting on panel of three winged angel heads among clouds above a pair of plain panelled doors revealing a fall-down lid, doors both inset with canvas of figures, with a triple oil on canvas depicting figures on a veranda outside a domed building; further figures to the door backs, again opening to show an octagonal possibly snakewood and ebony surface, ivory and tortoiseshell inlayed tile like surface and decoration, the main fascia as a baroque doorway of two pairs of Solomonic columns centred by a small Flemish, 17th century painting on copper panel of Putti and figures, approx. 17cm x 10cm; flanked by two banks of four drawers faced by a 17th century, Flemish copper panel of Madonna and Child, approx. 22cm x 17cm; inside housing separate gilt metal laying Lady figures; the later base with stiles carved as pairs of infants flanking a door with central octagonal panel depicting “Christ and three disciples” on a reel edged basal plinth, overall cabinet as a whole approx. 162.5cm high x 103cm wide x 55.8cm deep. Generally good, stable, drop down section has some loss and scrapes / scratches, other areas with some age related wear and loss, signs of usage to areas and scrapes. £30,000-£50,000
Qing Dynasty vase
Lot 321 | A Chinese cloisonné enamel small mallet vase, Qing dynasty, 18th century, worked with four peony heads beneath leaf tips, in colours against a turquoise ground, approx. 12cm high x 5cm diameter. Indo-Portuguese mother of pearl
Lot 325 | An Indo-Portuguese mother of pearl dish, Gujarat, 16th/17th century, the frame of bracketed rim panels enclosing a radiated arrangement, of shape panels centred by an eleven petal floret, on a shallow foot ring, approx. 25.5cm diameter x 4.6cm high.
Further details: areas of nibbles / chips to mother of pearl and bracketed rim; some panels with small losses, largest being a 7mm section of outer foot ring; small quantities of filler to base around central mother of pearl panel; general cracking to panels throughout; wear and loss commensurate with age. £10,000-£15,000
