A stunning array of dolls, teddies, toys and vintage/designer clothes and textiles come to auction in September – and you can see them at a special weekend preview event.
On Sunday September 8, from 11am-3pm, Georgian mansion Bishton Hall at Wolseley Bridge, Staffs, will open its doors to people interested in previewing lots in the Monday, September 9 sale of vintage/luxury fashion and textiles, antique/vintage dolls, teddies and toys. Due to technical updates at Bishton, the sale itself will be held at Hansons’ Derbyshire saleroom.
Here dolls, teddies and toys expert Janet Rawnsley offers a glimpse of what’s in store:
Teddy bear treats
A magnificent array of Teddy bears feature in the Sept 9 sale, from great German and British manufacturers. There are more than 170 Steiff lots including seldom seen pieces. Boxed and in unused condition they make for a wonderful auction with some beautiful pieces to delight collectors.
R John Wright, The White Rabbit from Alice in wonderland, is a rare piece from this great American artist, with his beautiful tweed jacket and pocket watch. The Steiff Fairyland teddy bear is a winged green Steiff issued in small numbers and very rarely seen.
Collectors will also like a Steiff Nativity three kings set. Including the shepherd set in his shepherd huts we offer a trio of very hard-to-find pieces from the German factory 30 years ago, a wonderful family nativity heritage set.
A good selection of all the German Steiff Beatrix potter characters depicted in the book including Peter Rabbit, together with a BMW special issue car with two adventurous teddy bears inside is also appealing.
More bear pedigree comes courtesy of Merrythought, Deans , Herman and Charlie bears – a feast of antique and vintage pieces.
Antique dolls
The finest Antique doll collection seen to date includes remarkable pieces from great makers such as Leon Casimir Bru, Jumeau, Steiner, plus a fabulous selection from the Munich German art character-era of c.1910.
We are also offering two complete, rare late 19th century trousseau to include original dolls, clothing and accessories.
Another impressive lot is a rare and beautiful mid-19th century bead house dolls house, a remarkably rare item. Constructed from bead and wire, it is fully furnished under a glass dome with dolls of same period.
Vintage 1930s dolls
Dolls from the 1930s include pressed felt examples from Italian company Lenci in Turin and Kathe Kruse of Germany rare Hempelchen cloth painted dolls,some seldom seen.
General toys
A heady mix includes Corgi 1960s circus vehicles, 1950s Schuco racing cars, Victorian puzzles, Palitoy Action Man, Sindy dolls and post-war dolls and action figures. A remarkable array of lovely things.
