Vases set for auction dubbed ‘magnificent’ by member of Moorcroft family

 |  By andy

A pair of impressive Moorcroft vases, which have won praise from a member of the he Moorcroft family, are coming up for auction on Wednesday (Oct 9).

The two Macintyre baluster vases will go into Hansons’ Fine Art Auction on October 9 with an estimate of £5,000-£6,000 thanks to their quality.

John Moorcroft said: “To see a single vase in this design and condition is amazing, but to have a pair is magnificent.”

Ray Heath, Hansons’ Moorcroft consultant, said: “Made in 1909, they are substantial in size. During this period of late Macintyre, the tube lining was generally very fine and the paint was therefore prone to running.

“This is not the case in either vase. The colours, paint work and tube lining are of exceptional quality. You would expect vases of this age to be crazed, flaked or chipped. These have either been kept safely behind glass in a cabinet, or under wraps.”

The vases, which measure 33cm in height, feature a revived cornflower design, brown Macintyre backstamps and green W. Moorcroft signatures.

The Moorcroft vases are due to be sold in Hansons’ Fine Art Auction on Oct 9 at Bishton Hall, Wolseley Bridge, Staffs, ST17 0XN.
